"Taste Of Bali" Dive Safari Tour
"A Taste Of Bali" Diving Safari Tour provides the opportunity to experience two of the best locations for Scuba diving in Bali during your diving holidays with Bali International Diving Professionals, Tulamben and the Nusa Islands. The overnight staying in Tulamben reduces traveling to a maximum and makes it possible to make a supplemental night dive (highly recommended).
Taste Of Bali Safari - Day 1 & 2This dive safari starts with a three hour drive with one of our airconditioned minibusses. The trip will take you to the north of Bali and upon arrival in one of the premiere diving locations of our island which carries the name Tulamben, you will have a good impression about Bali's look above the water. While the first part of the journey is spent to escape the busy and touristic area of south Bali, the second part is a visual delight with some beautiful views at mount Agung (Gunung Agung), Bali's biggest volcano. At Tirtaganga in Bali's north-east region, you will get some photographic views over the famous rice fields and terraces (padis). Don't hasitate to ask the driver to stop for a moment to take same pictures!
When we travel through the villages at the north coast of Bali, you will get an impression of a more traditional Bali. This part of the island is not that touristic and the environment is dryer then Bali's south regions making life here more harsh for the local people. The 2 days (1 night) stay in the Tulamben area during your Scuba diving safari reduces traveling to a maximum and makes it possible to conduct a supplement (highly recommended) night dive. You will be diving the following sites during this overnight stay at Tulamben: Tulamben Reef Once we arrive in Tulamben, a small village that is situated at the foot of Mount Agung, you will be diving some dive sites that are known for their abundant and spectacular marine life.
The Tulamben area has truly something interesting for every diver. A shoreline that is made up from volcanic stones slopes down and changes in a sandy bottom at around 12 metres depth. The shallow stony part is teeming with underwater life and you can find Cuttlefish, Mantis Shrimps, Blue Ribbon Eels, Scorpionfish and Octopus on your way down to the sandy part of the dive site. Reef fish are all around you and can sometimes get a bit obtrusive because some people feed them (something we like to disencourage at BIDP). The sandy bottom contain small patches of corals which are little oasis of life. This site is also great for accompanying non-divers because there is a lot to see during snorkeling. The waves and the stones can make it a little challenge to enter, but once in the water this is quickly forgot when you see the abundance of marine life. The USAT Liberty Shipwreck
The wreck of the WWII freighter ship, the "USAT Liberty" lies parallel with the shore on a steep sandy slope. Although the most shallow part of this wreck can be seen while snorkelling, the remains of this ship and the artificial reef that it forms can be best experienced during Scuba diving. The wreck measures around 120 metres (400ft) long and lies in water between 9 and 30 meters deep. It is broken up into large chunks and turned over on it's side by the 1963 eruption of the Gunung Agung volcano. The wreck is safe and easy to dive and it forms an artificial shelter for a great amount of fish, estimated atleast 400 species. Large schools of circling jacks provide an astonishing view against the sunlight and spotted stingrays lie on the sandy slopes. The wreck is covered with coral, gorgonians and anemones.
One part of the sandy bottom at the shallow side of the wreck is home to a colony of spotted garden eels (heteroconger hassi) with their bodies swaying like plants in a breeze while snapping plankton from the water around them. Goatfishes graze the bottom for food and a group of Yellowbanded Sweetlips (plectorhinchus lineatus) stare at you and allow to come as close as one metre. While diving the wreck during daylight is very good, a nightdive will be one of your most memorable underwater experience ever. Many species that are busy during the day will disappear when it gets dark and night animals coming out. Bioluminescence gets visible when you turn off your diving light and move your hands or fins in the water while the silhouette of the wreck looms above you in the light of the moon. Many fish can be approached very closely while they are at sleep, Basking Stars are out and it is fairly easy to find skeleton shrimps with a sharp eye. It is Recommended to always use one of our diveguides during night dives at the wreck because navigation can be confusing. Tulamben Drop-Off The dive site known as "Drop-Off" or "Tulamben Wall", situated at the eastern end of the stony beach provides an opportunity for deeper diving and wall diving. The wall drops to a sandy bottom at a depth of around 60 metres (200ft) and features a nice overhang at around 18 metres (60ft) deep.
Covered with corals and sponges there are not as many species of fish at this site, but variety of other marine life is abundant. You can find Humphead Parrotfish (bolbometopon muricatum) and sometimes a small shark gliding by in the gentle currents distance. The dive starts from the stony beach and when you are a few metres down, you will swim above a sandy bottom in the direction of the drop-off to the east. This sandy bottom looks uninteresting at first sight, but houses many nice creatures and small pathes of corals. Ornate and Harlequin Ghost-Pipefish (solenostomus paradoxus) can be found here aswell as Red Lionfish (pterois volitans). This is certainly a dive site not to miss during your stay in Tulamben. For more detailed information and a map of the Tulamben area, visit our Dive Sites of Tulamben page. Taste Of Bali Safari - Day 3After 2 days of Scuba diving in Tulamben, we will return to Sanur when the second dive on the second day is finished to bring you to your accommodation for the night, making an early morning departure to the Nusa Islands possible to continue your Scuba diving safari tour the next day.
You will board BIDP's speed boat which is ready and waiting for you at the beach of Sanur. The boat ride to Nusa Penida will take approx. 45 minutes. Nusa Penida and it's companion islands Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan form the place for some exhilarating Scuba diving. Dive sites around the islands are diverse with the possiblity to make drift-dives and to see large pelagics like Mola Mola (Ocean Sunfish) and Manta Rays. The south of Nusa Penida consist of high cliffs dropping into the Badung Strait, the north part of the island is low and the dive sites consist of beautiful corals and bommies aswell as an abundance of marine life. You may encounter Sweetlips, Lionfish, Moray Eel, Groupers, Unicorn Fish and much more. Last year we have seen a group of dolphins passing by and Mola Mola sometimes also come here, make sure to look into the blue sometimes to be able to spot them.. When we arrive back at the beach of Sanur after the dives at the Nusa Islands, you will be transfered to your accommodation directly or after enjoyment of a Balinese coffee and a chat about your Safari tour at our divecenter/office. We hope you'll have had a satisfied lasting experience diving with us and hope to see you again! For more detailed information and a map of the Nusa Penida area, visit our Dive Sites of Nusa Penida page.
