What Is PADI:

The Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) is the largest worldwide dive consortium and scuba training organisation that was started in 1966 by John Cronin and Ralph Erikson.

The PADI organisation has over 135.000 professional individual members and serves more then 5 thousand dive centres in approximately 180 countries in the world.

PADI's Scuba diving courses range from entry and beginner level dive courses like Discover Scuba Diving to Instructor level courses. The PADI Scuba instruction and certification system is built on modules and standard learning goals containing theory as well as practical dive skill development. Theory is studied mainly by using books and CD-ROM computer materials. To visualise the modules that the student have learned, video and DVD materials are used.

Scuba diving certification is issued when the student shows mastery of standardized knowledge review sessions and can perform the needed practical skills to/with a certified PADI Scuba instructor. Practical skills are learned during Confined Water Sessions. Confined Water Sessions can take place in a swimming pool or relative protected shallow waters at one of the dive sites around Bali, Indonesia.

A new way of learning PADI scuba diving theory is so called "elearning". This way, a student can learn the theory online at the internet and conduct the practical skills with any PADI registered Scuba diving company or center in their home country or during Holidays abroad.

PADI Scuba diving courses are skill based Scuba programs, the introductory courses emphasize practical knowledge, skills and diving safety. Basics of underwater physics, chemistry and physiology are learned during the beginner / entry levels of dive education. More specialised details of Scuba Diving knowledge is learned during courses beyond the basic / beginner level courses and during Specialty Courses.
