PADI Night Diver Specialty Course

Marine life at night differs greatly compared to the time of daylight. Many species that are awake during the day sleep at night and other creatures, not seen during daylight, come out and start their active life.

Dive sites that you haved dived during daytime differ and change completely at night and diving under darkness is a different adventure. Parrotfish are wrapped in a self made cocoon and other fish hide in the corals. Crabs and lobsters come out and are all over the place, coral polyps open up to feed and basket stars are appearing.

Course Overview

The PADI Night Diver course will be an introduction to night diving and will help the student to develop the skills, knowledge and techniques necessary to safely conduct night dives.

To complete this specialty course, 3 dives need to be made during darkness. Night is concidered any time between sunset untill sunrise. Preceding the open water sessions, the academic part will be conducted in BIDP's airconditioned classroom in Sanur, Bali.

It is recommended that the night training takes place at a dive site where the student has dived during the day, so the student will be familiar with the area.Granulate Basket Star (Astroboa granulatus)

Contained in this course are the following:

  1. Planning, organisation, procedures,techniques, hazards and problems that can occur during Night Diving;
  2. Proper procedures for buoyancy control, naviagtion and communication underwater during a Night Dive;
  3. Use of dive lights and buddy system techniques;
  4. Disorientation and emergency procedures;
  5. Orientation to nocturnal aquatic life.

When the training dives of this PADI Night Diver Specialty Course are finished, the student divers have to log the dives in their personal logbooks.

A night Dive conducted during the PADI Adventures in Diving program may be counted toward this specialty course at the discretion of your instructor conducting the specialty Night Diver course.

Prerequisites

  • Participating divers needs to be certified as a PADI Open Water Diver, Junior Open Water Diver (or comparable certification from another dive training organisation);
  • Have minimum age of 12 years;
  • Orange Coral Crab (Trapezia lutea)Evaluate and sign the PADI Night Diver statement.
