PADI Nitrox Enriched Air Diver Specialty Course

One of PADI's most popular Scuba diving specialty's is without a doubt the Enriched Air Nitrox Diver specialty course. When you like to extend your bottom time which is ruled by the amount of nitrogen pickup during the diving, you need to reduce the amount of nitrogen in your breathing gasmix.

Padi Enriched Air Nitrox LogoBy adding a higher percentage of oxygen to your breathing gas, EANx Nitrox Enriched Air is created. The lower percentage of nitrogen in the gas result in lower nitrogen pickup in the blood during the dive which as a result will lengthen your bottom time.

When you use Enriched Air Nitrox together with a dive computer that is made for EANx Scuba diving, you get the maximum underwater time because the computer takes the lower percentage of nitrogen in consideration and it will make your bottom time (underwater fun-time) considerably longer. When you still looking around to buy a dive computer, make sure it is prepared for use with Enriched Air Nitrox EANx untill 50% of oxygen. Most brands of well known dive computers manufacturers offer Nitrox prepared models of their dive computers nowadays.

Enriched Air Nitrox also results in a shorter surface interval and it is said (not yet scientifically proven) that Enriched Air Nitrox makes you less tired after the dive. You will be ready soon again for your next dive in Bali, Indonesia!

The only downside of Enriched Air Nitrox is that the added percentage of oxygen to remove the nitrogen from the breathing gasmix reduces the maximum depth at which the mix can be used because oxygen has the disadvantage to get toxic at depth. You will learn everything about planning and calculating a safe way of diving on Nitrox EANx Enriched Air during this specialty dive course.

Course Overview

The PADI Enriched Air Nitrox Specialty Scuba Diving Course focuses on the use of Enriched Air Nitrox mixtures of between 22% and 40% of oxygen, with the emphasis on Enriched Air Nitrox with 32 and 36 percent of oxygen.

This course is designed to qualify recreational divers to use Enriched Air Nitrox for No-Stop recreational diving, and focuses the theoretical and operational considerations involved with Enriched Air Nitrox diving.

Mastery of the learning objectives is demonstrated during knowledge developmet assessment, practical application sessions and open water dives.

Contained in this course are the following:

  1. The course will follow the standardized PADI Nitrox Enriched Air Diver Specialty Course outline;
  2. Students will work through the PADI Enriched Air Diver Nitrox Manual, complete the knowledge reviews and discuss the results with their instructor;
  3. Students will watch the PADI Enriched Air Nitrox Diving video. (it is recommended, but not required that students have a personal copy of the video and manual for independent study and review of knowledge after the program);
  4. Students will complete the Enriched Air Nitrox Diver Exam and demonstrate mastery of all performance objectives during the Academic Application Session and enriched air nitrox training dives. Questions answered incorrectly will be explained by their instructor untill full understanding is achieved.

Prerequisites

  • Participating divers needs to be certified as a PADI Open Water Diver (or comparable certification from another dive training organisation);
  • Have minimum age of 15 years;
  • Students must complete and sign the liability relaease and express assumption of risk for Enriched Air Nitrox Diving;
  • Evaluate and sign the PADI medical statement.
