PADI Research Diver Specialty Course

During The PADI Research Diver Specialty Course in Bali Indonesia, you will learn how to organize and execute underwater research using Scuba.

This interesting specialty course is designed to teach a student diver the basic methods and techniques to conduct underwater research in many branches of science.

Course Overview

During classroom sessions, you will built the knowledge about guidelines and basic techniques that are used to conduct research diving in a safe way.

During outdoor sessions, you will practice ground truthing techniques, creating baselines and transect lines aswell as standard search patterns and measuring- and observation techniques.

After the knowledge section and outdoor exercises, you will conduct 2 open water dives to accomplish and refine the skills underwater.

After these two dives you will prepare field notes / drawings to document your fieldwork and experiences.

Course Pre-requisites

  • Minimum age: 12 years old;
  • Be a certified PADI Open Water Diver or Junior Open Water Diver (or qualifying certification from another organization);
  • Evaluate and sign the PADI Diver statement;
  • Bring your underwater slate to write down notes and measurments underwater.

This PADI Course Includes

  • Lunch and Drinking water;
  • All equipment hire;
  • Air fills (free Nitrox available for EANx certified divers);
  • Entrance fees to swimming pool and dive sites;
  • Transfers before, during and after the diving/classroom from and to you accommodation;
  • Free Copy of BIDP's "Bali Ocean" Scuba Diving DVD (with underwater video of Bali's dive sites)

Duration Of The Course

  • Recommended duration is 8 hours (2 hrs classroom, 2hrs outdoor skills, 4hrs open water dives);
  • 2 open water dives.

After PADI Research Diver Certification

When you have been certified as a PADI Research Diver, you gained the possibility for a job as underwater researcher around the world.

The PADI Research Diver Certification can count towards PADI Master Scuba Diver Certification.
