PADI Search and Recovery Diver Specialty Course

When you want to locate / find and recover it from underwater the PADI Search and Recovery Diver Specialty course is probably of good help!

Course Overview

The PADI Search and Recovery Specialty Scuba Diving Course is an introduction to Search and Recovery Diving and will help developing the necessary skills and knowledge for safe search and recovery diving.

The student will learn search and recovery dive planning, organization, procedures, techniques and how to deal with potential hazards. You learn how to locate large and smaller objects using search patterns and various ways for lifting them to the surface. Not only do these skills make you more capable and confident in the water, but most Search and Recovery Divers eventually end up searching for and recovering something they lost themselves.

Academic part and practical water training parts are equally divided in time.

This Specialty course consist of 4 dives that will be conducted during 2 diving days. It is recommended but not necessary that the open water training will be conducted between 9 - 18 meters (30 - 60 feet).

Contained in this course are the following:

  1. You will learn planning, organisation, procedures, techniques, problems and hazards of search and recovery diving;
  2. Limited visibility diving and underwater navigation techinques will be learned;
  3. The right techniques and safety considerations for object location will be explained aswell how to use various search patterns, lines and reels;
  4. Proper techniques and safety considerations for recovery of objects using various lifting devices like lift bags.

Prerequisites

  • Participating divers needs to be certified as a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver, Junior Advanced Open Water Diver (or comparable certification from another dive training organisation) OR PADI Open Water Diver, Junior Open Water Diver who is certified as PADI Underwater Navigator Diver;
  • Have minimum age of 12 years;
  • Evaluate and sign the PADI medical statement.

  • Recommended duration is 24 hours
