PADI Digital Underwater Photographer Specialty

During the past few years the (underwater) photography world is taken by Digital. It is not longer necessary to go underwater with an ordinary film camera with 36 exposures and find out that all photo's have failed to get detail, focus and colors. With a digital camera it is possible to check the composition, focus and colors while you make the photo underwater.

It is great to show your friends what you have seen underwater and even be able to print the results in a photo-shop after your diving holidays in Bali, Indonesia. Now the memory cards for digital camera's get higher capacity and cheaper, you have more exposures during your dive then air in your cilinder. Many hundreds of pictures can be stored on the memory inside the camera.

When you have invested in a digital underwater camera with housing and sufficient memory, most of the cost are covered. There is no extra expence for buying film and the development process of the film, you only print the really good exposures on photo paper in a professional photo-shop.

After the dive the photo's can be viewed on laptop or TV because many camera are being sold with cable to connect to television. There is a range of camera's available priced from a few hundred bucks untill many many thousands of dollars. You can choose a camera and underwater housing from the same manufacturer in polycarbonate and the more expensive SLR (Single Lens Reflex) camera's with aluminium housing from different exotic makings with dome ports, lenses and underwater strobes.

Before there were two PADI Underwater Photography Courses, but since there are very few people who upgrade to a ordinary film camera nowadays and since the new SLR digital camera's can really compete with the "old" film camera's, both courses have fused in one.
